Wear Orange – National Gun Violence Awareness Day

June 7 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

First Friday, June 7th, wear orange!  Kansas City will join the nation in bringing heightened awareness of the impact of gun violence.  A feature of National Gun Violence Awareness Day is the campaign to “wear orange”(the color used by hunters to prevent being shot).  In addition to wearing orange, area businesses in office buildings are asked to illuminate those buildings in orange and the color is infused through a range of activities, restaurants and more.  The KCMO Health Department is one of the partners in this year’s “wear orange” campaign through its Let’s WIN KC initiative for mental and emotional health..are

This initiative addresses anxiety and depression but also the areas of anger management and conflict resolution–a leading contributor to homicides.  In this space, the Let’s WIN KC initiative is particularly focused on preventing the LOSSES in our community–loss of lives to our overall peace–and moving to a WINNING state.

Organizations in the KC metro are asked to sign-up at letswinkc.com/wearorange to list their organization as a supporter, and can add their logos for recognition.   Participants in the “wear orange” campaign will share the events and resources that will be featured throughout the campaign.  One of the events for the wear orange campaign will take place on 18th & Vine as part of the monthly First Fridays activities.

Stay tuned for more information.
