WORKING FOR YOUTH
We know investment in young people increases the likelihood they’ll pursue higher education and creates a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce. As part of our mission, we’re focused on providing educational experiences to young people who are disconnected or at risk of becoming disconnected form school.
In 2021, we launched Working for Youth, a paid youth summer internship program that placed 427 youth with 89 employers. More than 25 percent of the youth participants were interviewed or hired afterward.
In Working For Youth’s second year KC Common Good partnered with ProX, which is a summer youth employment effort in collaboration with the Kauffman Foundation’s Real World Learning team and the DeBruce Foundation. Nearly 420 young people were placed in one of 90 local employers, working paid summer internships. KC Common Good recruited 209 youth primarily from five east Kansas City zip codes most impacted by violence. Students received weekly professional development and financial literacy training.
