DESCRIPTION:The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) will be hosting listening sessions in Kansas City on August 1st from 2-4 pm to collect local-level feedback to guide state-level overdose prevention and response efforts. The Kansas City session will take place at the Bluford Branch of the Kansas City Public Library. \nThe intention is to focus on receiving feedback from communities who are disproportionately impacted by overdose in Missouri\, including those with lived and living experience of substance use. If folks cannot attend the listening session in-person\, there is a survey option on the flyer (attached) to provide feedback.

DESCRIPTION:Swope Health will host “Brick by Brick: What it will take to solve Kansas City’s affordable housing crisis\,” a moderated panel discussion\, on Thursday\, Aug. 1\, at the Kansas City Public Library-Plaza Branch\, Truman Forum Auditorium (4801 Main St.\, Kansas City\, Mo.). The event\, free and open to all\, will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. The conversation begins at 6 p.m. \nJeron Ravin\, JD\, President and CEO of Swope Health\, will guide the conversation\, featuring panelists Steven Anthony\, Vice President of Business Development\, Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City; Terrell Jolly\, Managing Partner and Senior Agent\, Integrity Capital Management; Pat Jordan\, President\, Pat Jordan and Associates; and Blaine Procter\, Director\, Housing and Community Development\, City of Kansas City\, Missouri. \nHousing is one of the most widely researched social determinants of health. According to a recent report by the National Low-Income Housing Coalition\, the U.S. has a shortage of 7.3 million rental homes that are affordable and available to those with extremely low incomes—those at or below the federal poverty guideline\, or at 30 percent of the area median income. In Kansas City\, only 36 of 100 units are available to those who are at or below the extremely low-income threshold. Affordable housing interventions have been found to improve health outcomes and decrease health care costs. The panel discussion will explore the affordable housing trends that are pervasive in our country and unique to Kansas City. DESCRIPTION:Saturday August 3 at CAC’s SKC Resources Fair at the Optimist Club Bingo Hall\, 11154 Blue Ridge Boulevard\, KCMO. \nYour organization is invited to have a table and share information and also provide an onsite activity or service if you can. The Optimist Bingo Hall (same venue) is very large so there is plenty of room. This Resources Fair has a theme of A Safe and Healthy Community\, although an organization with any resources to share is welcome to reserve a table (or more if needed). Each organization will have a 6-foot table and two chairs unless additional tables\, chairs and electricity are requested in the registration form. The Hall will open at 9 am\, tables need to be ready by 10 am\, tables can tear down after 1 pm\, we need to be clear by 2 pm. \nThe Resources Fair is free for nonprofits\, churches\, government agencies and neighborhood associations. We ask for-profits for a $50 fee that can be invoiced. Ruskin Heights Homes Association will provide a hospitality table. We ask that no products or services be sold onsite at the Fair.
